Today I attended a photography workshop and learned a few new tricks.  My macro lens is and EF-S and doesn’t work on my fancy new camera, but I learned about close-up macro filters in class.  They are ridiculously cheap (I paid $13) for a set of 4, and they screw on the end of both my 50mm and 85mm lenses.  This was shot with my 85mm with the +2 close up filter.  It’s a nice and easy way to do macro without the huge investment when you just want to do it occasionally!

This is the set I got: PLR Optics 58MM +1 +2 +4 +10 Close-Up Macro Filter Set with Pouch.  Basically, you just need to get the filter size of your lens and search for something that would work.  On my Canon lenses, this is conveniently listed on the inside of my lens cap.
